Barely changed in 80 years, Stuart’s workshop still contains handlooms installed by his wife’s father, Angus Litster, in 1937.

Stuart uses the hand- and foot-powered looms to create blankets, tweeds and scarves, often using wool from his customers’ own sheep. Even the Queen has been a customer.

“My looms each have subtle characters, which I have come to know and love over nearly 50 years of working on them. To me there is nothing quite like the smooth, regular clatter of my looms in action,” he says.
