THE JEWELLERY MAKER
MIRIAM BOY
JEWELLERY MAKER
Chagford
Working from a cosy studio in the centre of the ancient stannary town of Chagford, Miriam makes silver jewellery using designs inspired by the moors and wildlife that surrounds her.
"For me the most fascinating thing about creating jewellery in different metals is the fact that its such an old craft, dating back thousands of years," says Miriam.
"Every culture anywhere in the world has adorned themselves with jewellery, first bones and feathers, later beads and metals. It is part of human culture, and creating jewellery on this ancient Dartmoor feels like a continuing of this craft and a real privilege to me.
"My jewellery is timeless, rustic, organic and I often play with different finishes, patinas and textures. Wherever I can I use traditional tools, hammers and hand-drills."
Miriam is one of the few people in the UK to offer lovebirds the chance to design and make their own wedding rings.
